Protect Your Baby, Classic Auto Insurance

You baby her.  You polish her weekly, never take her out in the rain, and use the best car care products on her.  You love her.  She is a classic car.  Protecting the classic car goes beyond simply caring for the engine and the paint job.  This insurance does not look at the vehicle as being old, but rather as being valuable and collectible.  This type of classic auto insurance is different. It can be expensive but it depends on what you own.

To get a handle on classic auto insurance, one needs to know what qualifies as a classic car.  There is more than age involved.   It used to be said that the vehicles over twenty-five years old are collectible.  This is typically not the case anymore.  There are some standards to what is considered collectible or classic.  These standards include being a two door sports vehicle.  Few four door vehicles qualify as collectible.  Unique body shapes on any number of door vehicles helps to add to the collectible of the vehicle.  Foreign cars are also highly collectible due to the high costs of shipping the vehicles to the United States.  This does not mean that all foreign cars are collectible, but those from the seventies and early eighties can be collectibles.  Muscle cars and vehicles with large V8 engines also gain qualifications as collectible vehicles.

Vehicles that do not qualify for coverage under the classic auto insurance include vehicles that are driven on a daily basis, vehicles that are modified for racing, vehicles that are low quality replicas, or any other type of non-collectible, non-classic use.  These vehicles would be covered under the normal insurance for cars.  These vehicles are not considered classics and are not considered collectibles because of the frequency of usage and the quality of materials that are used in the production of the vehicle.  Exceptions to some of the rules can be made, but for the most part, this is a compressive listing of what is not acceptable as for collectible or classic auto insurance.

It is important to get collectible or classic auto insurance for the classic and collectible vehicle.  Regular auto insurance would value the vehicle at less than it is truly worth by calculating the age verse cost and finding the depreciated value of the vehicle.  With classic cars the value does not decrease, but rather increases, which requires a specialized manner of finding the true value of the vehicle.  Regular auto insurance also figures for frequent driving, while there are driving restrictions for those with classic vehicles.

Classic vehicle insurance also helps with the different damages that can be obtained by a classic vehicle that a modern vehicle may not encounter.  Vandalism can take a drastic toll on the value of the classic vehicle while the modern car's value might not drop as significantly.  This is another thing that is important to understand when shopping for classic auto insurance.  Caring for the classic vehicle is part of a collector's passion.  Part of this passion is the right classic auto insurance.
